This poetry blog is really late. This month, which I will hopefully write a recap blog about soon, has actually been pretty crazy. It was a month of opportunity, further growth, wrestling, and God’s provision. Things got awesome in Kosovo! Here are a few of the poems I wrote during the month of April.
Just You and Me– April 12
Just You and me
In a meadow
As we’re running
Our tear-drops flow
Under blue skies
A picnic feast
Flowers of joy
Green grass of peace
We play and laugh
We dance and cry
Care in Your heart
Love in Your eye
Speaking sweetly
Your passion shows
Sitting with You
Desire grows
Tiny moments
Are what I need
Intimate times
Just You and me
Reversion– April 10
I still remember
That glorious time
When I felt God’s love
Saw His glory shine
That precious moment
When Jesus saved me
Became a new man
From bondage, set free
I was a foul beast
Filled with feral rage
Tormented by pain
Trapped in a small cage
Blood matted my fur
Deep wounds in my sides
Foaming at the mouth
Hungry, yellow eyes
Claws that tasted flesh
And a severed tail
A twisted black heart
In the night, I wailed
Evil men tortured
Piercing me with sticks
Pelted me with rocks
Beating me with kicks
But then came the Man
Different from the others
Rather than screaming
He called us brothers
Kind and beautiful
Was dressed all in white
Face showed compassion
Shone even through night
He opened the door
And beckoned me out
Crawling with caution
Trembling under doubt
Embrace me with love
Feeling life again
Said He forgave me
Washed away my sin
I called out His Name
My past fell away
Fur changed to feathers
And night turned to day
My body was cleaned
His grace went inward
No longer a beast
But a lovely bird
I flew from that place
Happy in His skies
Far from that suffering
Safe from all their lies
But that beast is knocking
I feel that old version
Oh Jesus my Savior
Please fight this reversion
Carpenter– April 17
The Carpenter works
Carving wooden beams
Something like a shelf
To hold all His dreams
He carries the logs
Throwing out His back
Chopping the excess
Wood flies with each whack
He keeps on cutting
‘Til the end He sees
Slices His finger
Tears staining the tree
Small imperfections
Are whittled away
Sands off the splinters
Hard work takes all day
When He finishes
Surveys what He’s done
Though He did good work
Cries for what’s to come
A soldier knocking
Hauls the pieces off
Couple days later
Hears the people scoff
Betrayed by a friend
Judas kissed His face
Leaders beat and mocked
He took a killer’s place
Dragged Him to a hill
Nakedness displayed
Nailed Him to a cross
The very thing He made
Jesus took our debt
Gladly paid the price
Killed the death and grave
With its own device
We never earned it
Still He gave it all
Though you beat and killed Him
Died to save your soul
The Carpenter works
To give us new hearts
Like those wooden beams
That tore Him apart
Jesus Is…– April 20
Sweeter than honey
Yet stronger than steel
A name on my lips
Better than a meal
The best Foundation
Has destroyed my walls
With one loving glance
My haughty pride falls
Upon that one Rock
My identity
All my hopes and dreams
Have now been set free
Better than money
Brighter than sunshine
I belong to Him
And He is now mine
Jesus my Savior
My Lord and my King
Master of my soul
Please take everything
